Our Light Turbines facility in Aberdeen has been awarded a Bronze Healthy Working Lives award by NHS Scotland.

The Healthy Working lives program is run by NHS Scotland and aims to help identify issues and improve health, safety and wellbeing in organisations in a structured and productive way. The program offers support and guidance to organisations on health, safety and wellbeing including topics such as mental health, absenteeism, fair treatment and violence and aggression.

Healthy Working Lives aims to help an organisation flourish through reducing accidents and ill health, reducing absenteeism, increasing staff morale and productivity, and retaining experienced staff.

Over the past year, the team at Light Turbines has introduced a number of initiatives to help them achieve this award.

Firstly they designed local walking routes which have encouraged employees to go for a walk at lunch and break times. They also worked with local gyms to offer employees discounted rates and held health and fitness breakfasts where employees discuss topics such as stress management, stretching techniques, active ageing and creating a healthy work life balance. Finally, they started a 7-a-side football team with many of the workshop employees getting involved and even participated in a local charity event.

Vicky Girling, QHSE Manager said, “Working on the Healthy Working Lives Awards has enabled us to focus on promoting an active, health conscious and emotionally healthy workforce. The benefits can clearly be seen not only within the company but in each employee. I am looking forward to introducing new healthy initiatives during our journey to the Silver award.”

Congratulations to the team at Light Turbines for their Bronze award and good luck in your pursuit of the Silver award!
