EthosEnergy use sophisticated CAD, CAM and CAE applications to conduct research and development (R&D) to deliver customized designed solutions and upgrades for generators and other products.
Generators require special attention during their designing process due to their complexity as well as possible operational consequences. We design new generators (i.e. stators and rotors) as well as their individual components using analytical processes, supported by finite-element analyses, taking advantage of wide knowledge on various available designs. We focus on designing new generators which will be improved in many aspects, like thermal-electric or technologic. Geometry as well as construction of magnetic and electric circuits are obtained on the basis of numerous detailed analyses and optimizations, using an extensive analytical model which also is used to estimate some dynamic parameters, like time constants and reactances. Generator temperatures have conventionally been computed using ventilation and thermal network approach. As a result, all required parameters for example temperature distributions, cooling medium flows and requirements for coolers are obtained. Next, basic calculations are conducted to determine the mechanical properties of the design, i.e. forces, torques and constructional strengths that could occur during operation. The designs are verified by finite-element method calculations – in electromagnetic, thermal, flow and mechanical fields. Results of the calculations are carefully analyzed to confirm the correctness of the accepted design, to identify necessary modifications and help to obtain the assumed parameters. Before release, there are detailed design reviews to confirm that all requirements are met and no constructional defects are found. After this CAD models are prepared, as well as drawings and specific technological requirements. Lastly, a set of final technical documentation is released to the production line.
