Generator Rotor Upgrades & Modernizations
Generator Services & Solutions
EthosEnergy modernizes generator rotors with power up to 600 MW using a wide variety of innovative and verified in practice design solutions.
The final scope of modernization of every rotor depends on its type, its original producer, its size and power, design, cooling system, technical and operational conditions as well as other customer requirements. Every rotor, prior to its modernization, requires individual analysis.
When modernizing rotors, we focus on optimization of their ventilation system providing optimal cooling of both the rotor and the stator as well as advantageous temperature distribution. The design of rotor components has a fundamental influence on the whole generator cooling system. In practice, the rotors are often the most thermally loaded components of the generators, so they have to be optimally designed. Depending on customer needs, we modernize generators in several variations of the rotor design. We have extensive experience in driving-type cooling systems and axial-radial cooling systems as well as in axial and radial fans. We can equip the rotors with high-efficient fans – developed by us – (i.e. fans adjustable, with changeable angle of blade position in the hub and optimal angles of attack) cooperating with elements intensifying cooling flow (i.e. guiding shields with properly shaped rear guiding vanes located directly behind the fan blades). For operational safety, we equip the rotors with one-side mounted retaining rings, protected against displacement with a bayonet made of G18H18 steel (18Mn18Cr) which is characterized by high resistance to stress corrosion.
Rotors modernized by us have a significantly improved design and technical parameters resulting in longer life. The final scope of every modernization requires individual analysis, depending on the individual original design of the machine and customer requirements.
