Engine MRO
EthosEnergy Light Turbines has invested heavily in parts and capability development to break into the Taurus DLN market and has full 7800 and 7900 capability with a growing LTSA customer base on this generic “T60” work horse.
The T60 1st stage nozzle is the key component developed by EthosEnergy to enable competitive entry to this market. This component is a Nickel super-alloy investment casting machined to high precision with Inconel 718 air tubes and details, trailing edge cooling holes and an abradable blade shroud. This coating is applied to the shroud area to allow the closest turbine tolerances and maximum power development.
The completed nozzle is an EthosEnergy Advanced Parts Development (APD) component and our coating philosophy for this item is sophisticated and complete.
For the 7800 and 7900 turbines this component has evolved and includes additional mid span cooling on the error foil.
The matching T60 1st stage blade is shown above, this is an equiax casting with a diffused platinum aluminide coating. The item is also fully air cooled allowing the engine Turbine Entry Temperature (TET) to be elevated for increased power generation.
For the 7800 and 7900 engines the same blade is manufactured in an upgraded material through single crystal casting technology.
The Houston facility is tailored around the Taurus product with specific sub assembly areas dedicated to precision build of the Taurus engine type. The compressor rotor is a 13 stage axial compressor assembly consisting of 49 separate component part numbers and over 750 individual parts each requiring detailed component inspection prior to assembly and scrutiny for runout tolerance.
All gas turbine rotors are balanced at EthosEnergy to ISO grade G 1.0 when the international standard states that gas turbine rotors should be balanced to ISO Grade G 3.0 only.
Taurus 60 Upgrades
There are many variants and upgrades in the Taurus 60 range of engines and EthosEnergy Light Turbines has kept pace with all of the major items such as:
Compressor Rotor balance piston configuration
Bearing pad design, bearing housing oil flow changes
#2 and #3 bearing oil seal material design change
Upgraded SoloNox combustor liner design to the latest super low emissions variant
Upgraded 1st stage nozzle guide vane design, latest materials and casting technology
Additionally, through customer demand our Advanced Parts Development Department (APD) team developed and produced an upgrade / conversion option to allow a customer to convert a standard T60 engine to a full SoloNox engine, this coupled with our controls upgrades capability allows plant changes to be made to fully comply with new emissions regulations if and when necessary.
