Pushed to Their Peak

July 2, 2019

One of our employees from the EthosEnergy Worcester office took part in the demanding ‘4Ps Challenge’ in May to raise money for the UK mental health charity Mind!

Richard Moorhouse, QHSE Manager, along with 11 friends and family (a team of 10 challengers and two supporters) embarked on the seven day ‘4Ps Challenge’ from 22-28 May. They travelled from Inverness in the north of Scotland to Scafell Pike in north west England using four physical disciplines – Paddle, Pedal, Plunge and Peak!

Over the seven days they paddled the length of Loch Ness in a canoe (Paddle), cycled 237 miles (Pedal), completed an open water swim in Ennerdale Lake and summitted two mountains – Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles at 1,345 metres and Scafell Pike, the highest mountain in England at 978 metres (Peak).

The challenge was made even more demanding by the severe Scottish weather. The team were forced off the water at Loch Ness in their canoes on day one due to 30 mile per hour headwinds, with even worse weather on day two! Despite the weather Richard particularly enjoyed the cycle part of the challenge, although they did end up travelling a bit further than anticipated due to some questionable navigation skills..!

The team hopes to raise £5,000 for Mind, a UK based charity who provide advice and support via local support groups and confidential helplines to people suffering with mental health problems. They also work alongside the government and employers to help shape public health policy and raise awareness for mental health issues within the UK. You can read more about the work that Mind do here.

All the members of Richard’s team have either had their own battles with mental health, or supported friends and family with struggles, so it is a cause that is extremely important to them. The team funded the challenge themselves so all money raised will go straight to Mind, their fundraising page is available here. They have raised over £3,800 so far and would love to hit their £5,000 target!

Congratulations Richard and the team!
